A quiet encounter
At the shelter, barking rose and fell all around me. Then a dark kennel—completely silent—caught my attention. Curious, I walked closer and found a pair of round eyes looking back at me. Inside was a solid-black puppy, about two or three months old. The puppy did not bark; we simply looked at one another, its gaze open and gentle.
An instinctive choice
Some time later, my family asked which dog we should adopt. Without hesitation, I said, “If we’re going to adopt one, I would choose the dog that didn’t bark.” And that was how the puppy came home with us.
A name, and a family
After leaving the shelter, the puppy looked around with wide eyes. Seeing that glossy, jet-black coat, I casually asked, “Should we call this little dog Oulu (歐嚕嚕), or Ousoso (歐搜搜)?” Just like that, Oulu became the puppy’s name—and the puppy became part of our family.
